BUSINESS LEADERS IN ISRAEL

A tour of Hadassah

THE Hadassah Medical Organisation welcomed two delegates from Melbourne-based SGG Solutions, managing director Andrew Shostak and CFO Daniel Goldman, as part of the Australian delegation attending the Biomed Conference in Tel Aviv last month. The company specialises in manufacturing, sourcing and distribution of products to global markets, including commodities trading. During their visit, Shostak and Goldman had the opportunity to interact with professionals from various departments of Hadassah, experiencing first-hand the expertise and compassionate patient care for which the organisation is renowned globally.

The pair spent time with Professor Eyal Herzog, head of cardiology; Dr David Planer, director of Hadassah’s Catheterisation Department; and Dr Gabby Elbaz Greener, senior catheterisation specialist and head of the Structural Heart Intervention Program. They provided insights into advancements in cardiology and catheterisation lab technology, including the pioneering Nexus aortic stent developed by Planer. It is a small, tube-shaped device of metal mesh that is used in the treatment of various conditions related to the aorta, the largest artery in the body. The two Australian businessmen also witnessed the medical team providing crucial treatment to a three-day-old baby suffering from a heart condition. Dr Sagi Gavri, director of Hadassah’s Paediatric Cardiology Department, explained the complexities of the case. A highlight of the Israel trip was a visit the Wohl Institute for Translational Medicine, where director Professor Rinat Abramovitch introduced delegates to the research and innovation spearheaded by the institute. The visit concluded with a meeting with Dr Tamar Raz, director of Hadasit Medical Research Services and Development, Hadassah’s technology transfer company. The discussion opened avenues for potential collaborations in the future.
